Humble

I refuse to believe that you have not been humbled

That you have lived your life without some pain and despair

Humility can come from many different instances and happenings

In that moment of declined dignity

When you are brought down from your perceived pedestal

You will have a choice

You can walk this new path cleared in the earth

Or you can climb up to the conceited path where you once stood

Humility stands as a reminder that we are human

To be humble is to be grounded

Do not interpret my words to mean throw away your confidence, your sense of self-worth, or your pride.

But do remember what it means to be humble

Remember what it means to make mistakes

To feel pain, sadness, and lowliness

While also remembering what you have going for you

Remember what everyday moments you should be thankful for

Remember how simple and yet complex life can be

And remember that it’s never as bad as it seems

Stay humble and grounded while feeling privileged and fortunate

Always be thankful

Kindness

Kindness can change moods

A single act of kindness can change someone’s day

No matter the size of the act

The quality or length of words spoken

Kindness has a profound impact on the world around us

A simple hug

A caring word

A small gesture of thoughtfulness

Kindness brings about happiness and smiles

It eases worry and stress

It increases health both physically and mentally

Giving kindness to others creates friendships

Establishes unbreakable bonds

It restores a faith in humanity that may have been lost

Strive to always be kind

You may change someone’s life

Most importantly be kind to yourself

Do things for yourself to make yourself happy

Be compassionate, loving, and caring to yourself

Even if it’s a small gesture of kindness

You may change YOUR day for the better

Balance

Are your scales equally aligned

Are you indulgent

Are you abstaining

How are you using your time

How are you filling your day

Do you allow for rest

Do you let yourself heal

Have you felt the warmth of the sun

Have you felt the warmth of your bed

Do you spend time with your loved ones

Do you spend time alone

One can be focused on one entity

Losing sight of its equally important opposite

Don’t just balance your time

Balance your emotions and feelings

Don’t give all your love to others

Keep some for yourself

Be humbled

But don’t be passive

Be happy

But do not be naive

Have depth

But do not be depressed

Balance life

Balance time

Balance love

Find your balance to stay centered and upright

Are you ready? This is not political

Sometimes we forget about the delicacy of life

We are consumed by consumption

Enamored by lavishness

Distracted by technology

Always wanting more

We tend to lose sight of the beauty in the simplistic

Those who have lost the most

Are the most thankful for the least

They have learned to take nothing for granted

When death enters your life there are many different reactions

Grief on different magnitudes

Different ways of coping

Processing

But death can also be the corrective lens to see life

When knowledge of death’s imminence is brought to light

Time becomes focal

Interactions become vital

Breathing gains importance

As days come and go

As we age and grow

Remember nothing is infinite

Remember everything matters

Lose sleep for the sunrise

Chase after the sunset

Be awake and aware for beauty in its entirety

Tell someone you love them, mean it

Tell someone you care

Life’s too important for games

To delicate to take advantage of

Be genuine

Be kind

Live fully, freely, and happily

Life Gets Hard, Life Gets Tough

For Everyone:

Every day is not easy

There are trials and tribulations

Times when you are down and don’t know where to turn

I know of friends who are going through difficult things now

There may be people reading this who are struggling with things

You may not be going through it today or even tomorrow

But there will be days you will struggle

Just remember you will persevere

Keep your head up and stay positive

Turn to those friends or loved ones you know you can lean on

When they are having a tough time let them lean on you

At the end of the day

Know everything will be alright.

“Life gets hard, and life gets tough,

but sometimes you gotta find,

a little bit of truth amongst all the lies,

and know everything will be alright.

I know everything will be alright”

-Sequoyah Prep School

Perspective

Individuality equates to uniqueness

Not one individual is the same as another

Commonalities exist between individuals

Differences are prevalent

We are one of a kind

Perspective is how one interprets

Our individual perspective is shaped in life

By our experiences, our culture, our values

We see things a certain way

We attach emotions to certain things

We prioritize our lives based on perspective

Two individuals looking at the same piece of artwork

Listening to the same piece of music

Tasting the same dish of food

Smelling the same flower

Touching the same form of material

Can have drastically different perspectives

One can attach a positive emotion to those experiences

The other may attach a negative emotion

Neither one may necessarily be right

Neither one may be wrong

Perspective is personal evaluation

Universally there may not be a right or wrong

Understanding perspective is important in how we communicate

How we build connections

The more open-minded you are to others’ perspectives

The easier it is to sympathize and understand them

Let those individuals with different perspectives enhance your life

Let them teach you a different way of seeing the world

May they broaden your horizons and open your mind

Go against rigidity

Not all perspectives have morality

Not all are good in the common sense of the word

Defining good and evil is another topic to tackle

For now it’s perspective

Through the knowledge of which can help us in disagreements

Help us to build friendships

Help us to build an identity

Judgement

A relational concept

That compares and contrasts

A habit which we develop at a young age

Through experiences of self

How our cognition processes events

Developed by years of learned correlations

Through consequences and rewards

Quick to judge

Is synonymous with close mindedness

However instant judgment is inescapable

Through conditioning we make a brief judgment

Have you learned to create space from that initial conception?

To allow for more information to become available

To learn more about a situation or person

Without biases

Your initial judgement may be correct

May be incorrect

But it’s how you determine that

And your willingness for that to be determined

That is important

You ultimately determine how you judge

You’re life has given you those experiences to make that determination

In relation to others

How judgmental are you?

Shall you judge yourself?
